The Simplest Beauty

Taken in a perennial garden outside of Almonte, while waiting for my wife to pick out some lillies for her garden.

[ f/2.8, 1/1000, 70mm, ISO 200 ]

Sometimes
the
simplest
beauty

just
sits

and
waits

for
me
to
finally
see
it

When
you
see
it
before
i
do

be
sure
to
let
me
know
that
i
missed
it
once
again

A Paradox in Feeling Small

The entrance lobby of the Museum of Natural History, Ottawa. Shot from the upper floor, hanging over the railing as far as I dared.

[ f/8, 1/13, 14mm, ISO 200 ]

One of those instances when it strikes me about how small and insignificant we can be. Yet, there is some comfort and pride that I take from knowing that creative human endeavours conceived and built this place. Somehow it is appropriate to put things in their scale.

Where do we fit in the scheme of natural history?

In deed there are times when Nature reminds us of how small we really are.
And there are artistic moments when we see how our creativity can also shape the world.
Such is the paradox of feeling small.

A Child Picks Flowers

A photo of my grand-daughter Ava, just being herself, lost in the beauty of the world around her.

[ f/2.8, 1/200, 135mm, ISO 200 ]

No poetry.
No lyrics.

No symphony
or play -

nothing
can compare
to the wonder
in a child's world.

It is ok
to envy her.

Blue Solitudes

Photo taken at the newly renovated Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa - well worth a visit, for both the amazing architecture as well as the wonderful nature displays.

[ f/8, 1/500, 14mm, ISO 200 ]

the architect
has been and gone
leaving behind
a sense of awe

here where i remain

lost
in the space around us

lost
in the space between us

where else to gaze
but upwards

to reach
into the heavens

and
step
beyond

the much
too frequent

solitude

in

which

i

live
