The Mentor

Coming across this scene, I had the impression of an elder mentoring an acolyte or follower.

The Mentor

Lessons Learned

1.

she...

waiting in terror
for changing weather to arrive
dreading a future season
where her beauty
might not survive

2.

he...

searching his soul
hoping to convince her
fighting the demon
of doubts inside
hoping to leave
the places
where fears reside

would she
his lover be?

would she
forever
his love abide?

3.

you are...

and even when clouds arise
your naked beauty
always leading me
to constant surprise
of loving you
for who you always are

for me
you will always be
the beauty I see
before me now

4.

my child-

whatever you clothe yourself in
be sure it doesn't melt

before you learn
the nature of your truth

Your Pixels Disintegrate

Photo taken at the Museum of Civilization, Ottawa, Ontario. But then, she really could be anywhere...

[ f/5.6, 1/25, 85mm, ISO 200 ]

i waited
in anticipation
of your warm embrace

the moment
like the silence
before the symphony
begins to play

i listened
for the strings
to start the tune

but you cued
the percussion instead

and then
you walked away

dropping the camera
through my broken heart

as your pixels
began
to
disintegrate

Glorious Unto the End

This photo reminded me of a fallen soldier. And the repeating seasons brought to mind the repeating and endless wars we seem to inflict upon ourselves. I originally thought of this as a tribute to the fallen Canadian soldier. Of course, it could easily represent any nationality.

[ f/14, 1/15, 62mm, ISO 800 ]
Glorious

i fear
none of us
will ever hear

whether
you knew
the end was near

and
if you could speak
what might you say
of dreams
or promises
now gone away

we stand
in awe
thankful
of your sacrifice
yet
knowing
how much
it won't suffice
to say as much

for autumn
does return each year

so too
the tears
the mothers' fears
that each new year
another warring season brings

emerge

This photo was taken on a warmer early winter day, before the heat of the sun breaking through the clouds could burn the fog away.

[ f/9, 1/400, 175mm, ISO 800 ]
emerge

feeling
almost like an intruder
I stop and watch you
come into the warming light

and in that stillness
does the fog slowly dissipate

and you softly emerge
a hint of colour on your clothes

breathing your fragile gentleness
into the warming breeze

almost timid
seeming shy
in the warming morning

and before I turned my eye

you did innocently lay
your head
upon
the wakening day

Resurrection

Photo taken in Gatineau Park, Quebec; a walkway going underneath the road, and leading from the parking lot into a hiking rail. I see this as a strong image of a journey; of emerging from darkness into light. Perhaps a symbol of enlightenment. Or perhaps a plaintive longing.

Resurrection

You wanted
to be reborn

to experience
something new

it is lonely here
watching you go

when you find
what you are looking for

please

bring back the light
and take me with you
