your 15 minutes of fame
are over
time to roll the film
into the current frame
no regrets
meals must be planned
and cooked
laundry washed then hung
on lines and hooks
- yet you'll sneak a smile
when no one looks
.... and the distant sound of long applause
grows above a constant whisper
the memory
of fans and light
and music loud
your heart pulsing
with the crowd
strangers shouting in adoration
you -
promising love
in musical quotations ....
how different
this life you've picked
with children now
your entourage
sporting fields
and school halls
instead of stages
and photo walls
yes -
your 15 minutes of fame
are over
time to roll the film
into the current frame
no regrets
today's menu
forever set

ReplyDeleteOh this is a stunning piece... a song to oneself... the repeated "your fifteen minutes of fame are over" both regret, reconciliation and validation of what once was along with acceptance of choices made of the 'what is" and will come to be... Beautiful :)
ReplyDeletePerfectly told, this tale that illuminates your amazing photo. You are a master photographer and a master story-teller, Mario.
ReplyDeleteBTW~ You comment on my poem made me giggle. I just ordered a Cohen book this morning!

ReplyDeleteExcellent. It must be hard for people who have enjoyed that '15 minutes' to adjust once again to the real world where they are no longer a star in the limelight, except in their own home with their children (and their memories).

Oh this poem resonated with me.....all those dreams when one is young, that so quickly turn into doing laundry and cooking meals and caring for people......yet, when you look back, it was all perfect - exactly as it was meant to be, even if it wasnt quite the life we dreamed.......
