parallel universes

I took this photo last summer in Baie-Ste-Paul, Quebec while on a little vacation and tour of the St Lawrence coast. I was struck by how much the reflection in the glass on the right side contrasted the view that you can see inside through the glass on the left.

the view from here

i
have always wondered
whose view is most real

mine
on the side of the gloom
i sometimes feel

yours
on the side that's bright
always ready to heal

when
what brings me down
ripping my day apart

you
hold me close
and then gently chart

our
paths together
a new day's start

dream catcher

I like to think that the majority of people would share the feeling that I get when I marvel at the creative minds of inventors, builders, artists - any that have a grandiose dream and the ability to not only conceive such a scheme but then to go even further and make it into a reality.

dream catcher

there was always fascination
with something I would miss

that you would bundle
into your chaotic dreaming

i could only marvel at
the attraction you felt
to being lost
in the maze of
your thoughts streaming

all the while
your emotions and grand ideas
barely balanced
jumping from beam to beam

when suddenly
life just burst from you
happier than most have seemed

it is perhaps
ideas or inventions turning real

where creative power
goes from the surreal

into embracing truth
and the beauty it does reveal

your 15 minutes of fame are over

This photo was taken in Montreal this past weekend. My wife and I really enjoyed walking around the down town and seeing all the wonderful colour in all the graffiti and other publicly supported works of art. I took many photos of those and might show one or two in a future post. I was drawn to the story in this scene as it provided an opposite view of the colour and vitality of the painted walls.

your 15 minutes of fame are over

your 15 minutes of fame
are over

time to roll the film
into the current frame

no regrets

meals must be planned
and cooked
laundry washed then hung
on lines and hooks

- yet you'll sneak a smile
when no one looks

.... and the distant sound of long applause
grows above a constant whisper

the memory

of fans and light
and music loud

your heart pulsing

with the crowd

strangers shouting in adoration

you -
promising love
in musical quotations ....

how different
this life you've picked

with children now
your entourage

sporting fields
and school halls

instead of stages
and photo walls

yes -

your 15 minutes of fame
are over

time to roll the film
into the current frame

no regrets

today's menu
forever set
